Well Keeper Reflections

Public¡170 Well Keepers

Joanna Kraft, keeping the Well March 26.

In the afterglow of the lunar eclipse, riding on the crested wave of the Equinox,

I receive the mantle from one Vermont sister before passing it to her kin for tomorrow’s watch.

I chose this day because it is my maternal grandmother’s birth day. The seed of me was inside her when she was pregnant with my mother - a promise inside a womb inside a womb.

Lineage. Today, I honor her. I honor them both. And all the wombs that birthed the world we call home.

The generously direct spirit of the dragon is with me today: illuminating the depths of division within and without; calling forth greater integrity and conviction - for harmony, within and without.

Horse medicine greeted me on the plateau of southwest Colorado this morning. This isn’t my usual home. I am on the road, but in a familiar land. Overlooking the vast high desert smattered with juniper groves, a velvety nose kissed my mug filled with broth I brewed to bring on this adventure. Her ears twisted with curiosity when I asked her what she might have to share on this brisk spring day. “It’s in the sensitivities,” she nodded as the skin on her shoulder twitched. What is ‘it?’ - I asked back. “Your strength,” she answered with the flip of a long black tail, and turned to join the others at the hay bail.

It’s a day of completion in my world. A great ending and a great beginning. This is how I know eclipse influence to feel - like being squeezed into a keyhole so the intricacies of the lock can be intimately examined and possibly finagled to open a door that has not yet been available to pass through.

The snow flurries sweeping across the land remind me of this unexpected and exceptional time. The wheel is turning. The knock at the door is answered as we each stand up to tend a day at the Well. We know the waters have secrets to expound.

I spent my day with the “salt of the earth.” I mean this on all literal and figurative layers. Salt - that which makes the passing of electricity through the fluids of our bodies possible. The groundwork for the network. I bow in gratitude to these molecules of matter, conduits of light to dark places.

And I pray for care-fully crafted networks of collaboration and creative synergy to be birthed. May we stand for the nourishment and freedom of all living beings, channeling the abundance of our Great Mother through the eternal Well of love from our wombs.

Blessings, dear sisters.
